Then someone breaks her bedroom window with a ladder, breaks in and ransacks her room. And you know what, I didn't hate it 😅😅Ībbie is our annoying protag who goes around exclaiming "WHY MEEE? WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS?" First she almost gets run over by a car in the blinding snow. I wasn't a fan of "Party Line" or "Final Exam", but I read this one because of the awesomely bonkers cover.
I was expecting to hate this one, as the author has struck out with me in the past. Verdict: Annoying heroine who somehow made annoying work for her. I do like a book that can keep me guessing. I half expected there to not be a bad guy at the end, and to find out it was all imagination and coincidence. So much of the book seemed to be Abbie making wild leaps of logic - and having them proved right. But.actually, I do want to call her those things. I don't want to call Ab this paranoid, overreacting, wimpy eejit, because as I said, someone actually WAS after her.
Seems to me that a better choice would be a) sleep on the floor in Brett's room with a baseball bat or b) go buy a shotgun. Ergo, they have to sleep in the bathroom.

Other rooms with windows aren't safe in case whoever it was tries to break in again. Okay, this is a legit thing to be frightened of, but do you know how she deals with that fear? The next night - AFTER her brother Brett has boarded up the window - she insists that she and Brett sleep in the bathroom. I'm guessing none, unless they keep it to themselves.įourth occurrence: Abbie's window gets broken in while she's asleep. You know how many have shrines to me in their bedroom and stalk me in their spare time? I don't know. You know how many guys have stared at me in class over the years? Too many. It annoys me that she was proved right here, because it seems like such a reach to me. The combination of these two things convinces Abbie that she needs to break into Joey's locker, and when she finds pictures of her in there, she breaks into his house and finds a veritable shrine. Then he rushes to Ab's defence when she and Taylor are arguing at lunch. Abbie has never really noticed this, so I can't imagine he can be staring TOO much, but OK. Third occurrence: Joey from computer class stares at Abbie a lot, according to Ab's BFF Taylor. Appalling txtspk aside, I don't see anything scary about this note - if I got it I'd assume secret admirer, not threat. Second occurrence: A note in her locker that says "B MOR KRFL U C IM KRAZY 4 U". This could easily have been an accident - it's snowing, and she was dancing in the road, silly girl. It kept me wondering.įirst occurrence: Abbie nearly gets run over by a car. Everything could so easily have all been nothing.
I guess maybe that's what I liked about the book. But she certainly has what seem to me to be overly strong reactions to what could have been simple coincidences. As it turns out, someone actually was after her, so perhaps paranoia is the wrong word. Most of this book seems to be about not stalking, but Abbie's paranoia. She's not sure who it is, though - the weird guy from computer class who seems to be obsessed with her? The cute guy she has a crush on? Her best friend? Abbie suspects everyone of being out to get her.Äoes that make any sense? Meh, probably not. There's no actual stalking going on per se - although someone (or something) breaks her window one night, and someone's leaving her notes that say things like "IM KRAZY 4 U" - but she's definitely feeling stalked. So she's not sure how she's acquired a stalker. Sure, she's a fanatic for health food and paranoid about getting cancer (slightly odd traits in teenage girls!) but aside from that she's pretty normal. ‪One-Line Review: They missed out by not calling Abbie’s health food store Oats and Dreams.‬Äarn it, I really don't know how I feel about this book.Ībbie is a pretty normal girl.
